Like anything, microfiber requires some basic maintenance, but before you panic, it’s really easy and almost effortless. Cleaning your microfiber ensures that the dirt locked inside the fibers is removed, as well as any other dirt, grime that it may have picked up along the way. Basic maintenance for microfiber is fairly easy. Wash the microfiber product after you use it. Dust, dirt and most stains are removed. This is generally recommended after light usage. If the cloth, mitt or mop fillers are extremely dirty, a good rinse with warm water and a light detergent will bring it back to looking brand new. Cold or lukewarm water also works. As for microfiber facial products, it is best to wash them in warm water after every use. If you are using facial wash, it is best to wash them in the same facial wash you use so as not to irritate your skin with detergent. Air dry these.
There are also many products on the market made especially for cleaning microfiber products. These are usually available where microfiber products are available.
Don’t bleach, add fabric softener or use harsh detergents on microfiber. It is very easy to wash and usually needs nothing other than a light soap and rinse. Adding fabric softener may be absorbed by the microfiber and render it useless.
Don’t wring the cloth. Microfiber is up to 7 times more absorbent than any other cloth, so it rarely gets to the point where it drips. Wringing microfiber may cause the tiny fibers to stick together and later on cause scratches due to impurities stuck inside the fiber.
Don’t wash microfiber in hot water. It will cause it to shrink or clump and again, render it useless. For the same reason, do not dry in high heat.
