All you have to do is run it under the sink and the dirt washes off! If you’re familiar with infomercials, you’ve probably heard this line before. Just a swipe and the stains are magically gone!
Microfiber cleaning cloths are a staple of the cleaning industry. It’s easy to believe this because the very properties of microfiber allow it to clean a surface in no time. It acts like a vacuum by picking up dirt and storing it in the fiber itself. Microfiber is more than just a product sold in infomercials. It’s a versatile cleaning tool with many benefits for you and your home.
Microfibers actually pick up more dirt than the conventional cotton cloth. This is because it has a bigger surface area. How can this be if microfiber is actually finer than any other type of fiber? If we place microfiber under a microscope, we will notice that it is wedge shaped. Most other fibers, including cotton, are rounded. So when you use a microfiber cloth to clean your desk, more parts of the cloth are touching the desk than when you use an ordinary cotton one. When you use cotton, the cloth just picks up some of the dirt and pushes the rest around.
Microfiber’s polyamide/polyester mix makes it extremely effective cleaning tool because it has two cool properties: oil adheres to polyester and polyamide absorbs water. Combined, this means that grease, water spills and stains are easily removed by the cloth itself without using any other type of cleaning aid. This makes cleaning easier. You can get a shiny super clean surface with less effort and save a little money since you don’t need cleaning oils or sprays.
Unlike cotton, which is a natural fiber derived from the cotton plant Gossipyum, microfiber leaves no lint on your tabletops, desks or glass furniture. Cotton fibers are denser, thicker and have a tendency to trap dirt between its layers. They are prone to stains because cotton naturally soaks up color. This can be problematic after cleaning up darker spills or large amounts of dirt. Have you ever experienced wiping up wine with cotton cloth and the amount of frustration you get trying to get the wine off the cloth? Although microfiber traps dirt, the structure of the fiber allows the dirt, grease and oil to wash off when the cloth is held under running water. No soap is required and you don’t have to soak it to get rid of stains like with cotton cloth.
Microfiber cloths last longer because they are synthetic. It’s a great investment since most cotton-made cloths fray after use or disintegrate. Microfibers woven into a cloth retain their structure longer than cotton cloths do, especially if you take good care of them. You don’t have to replace them as often because they are extremely sturdy.
Microfiber cleans better, is easier to maintain, saves you time and money and lasts much longer than ordinary cotton cloth. If you think that microfiber cloth is an infomercial wunderkind? Think again!
